Budget and Schedule

 Budget

Drexel University will be lending the pH level testing probe and the conductivity-testing probe. The only expense the group will pay is for the testing strips that measure alkalinity, hardness, and chlorine levels of water. The strips can be purchased online or at pool company stores. There are several brands to chose from so we chose the least expensive brand called Water Works. The test strips will be dipped in the water for 5 seconds and left to dry for 25 seconds. Once dried, the strips can be compared to the colors on the bottle in order to determine the levels of each parameter. The conductivity and pH probes will be placed in the water for an immediate result.

Project Timeline

Literature Study /Preparing the Project:

The first three weeks were used for researching the Philadelphia Water Department's estimated levels of hardness, conductivity, alkalinity, pH levels, and chlorine levels. The information was found from http://www.phila.gov/water/wu/Water%20Quality%20Reports/2014WaterQuality.pdf , in which the latest 2014 record was released.

Getting Supplies

The conductivity and pH probes were lent by Drexel University during the third week and the test strips for hardness, alkalinity, and chlorine arrived during the fourth week.

Gathering Data

Due to the fact that the supplies had not arrived until week four, testing will occur once a week on Sundays beginning April 25th, 2015 for five weeks until May 23rd, 2015.

Summarizing, Comparing, and Analyzing Data

Once all of the data has been collected and organized, the comparisons between the Philadelphia Water Department's values for these parameters and the values of distilled water can be made. Based on these results, suggestions and research about what Drexel University can do to improve their water systems can be made.

Final Report Preparation

The final report will be constantly updated throughout the term to ensure a detailed report, but the majority of it will be finalized in weeks nine and ten because that is when all of the data will have been collected.

Facilities and Resources

Two probes, lent by Drexel University, will be used to test the pH levels and conductivity of the water.  Test strips will be to test for chlorine levels, ph, and water hardness.
